Vacation Update:
Huntington Beach through January 1, 2008. Happy New Year to you.

Christmas Re-cap

I got to see my whole family on Christmas. My sister is almost six months pregnant and is starting to show... I'm really excited for her and Ron because they are going to rock as parents. I went out for a run Xmas morning and it started to snow! After I got home and got ready I jumped in the kitchen and cooked a bit with my mom. We had a really good meal then played Rock Band for a bit with my little nieces.

Aside from the very awesome gifts I got this year, I got really great memories of being all together.

Holiday Cheer

My favorite Seattle Ladies at our Christmas Gift Exchange & Potluck!

I-90 Bridge is a death trap... or someone has a hit out on me

Three times in the last 15 hours I have almost been taken out on the freeway...
After work on I-90 the entire right side of my car was nearly sideswipped by an SUV that swerved halfway into my lane w/o warning; I had to steer hard into the HOV lane to avoid it and had no time to check my side mirror. I ended up cutting off a car in that lane hard but they braked in time.

Ten minutes later I was in the middle lane and a black Mercedes w/ a woman on a cell phone did the same thing.

On my way into the office, on the I-90 bridge around 6:30 this morning, the Volvo in front of me looked normal, pacing along in a straight line like cars are supposed too. Then a large piece of plastic flew back towards my car. Then I saw the entire hood fly up and cover the windshield. The driver proceeded to slam their brakes and, lucky me, I got to swerve again. So my solution is that I'm working from home tomorrow ;). No more of this craziness.

On the lighter side...
*I set a new 135lb. max on the squats (free weights, not Smith machine) yesterday. It was my fourth set, I did 8 reps, and had built up from 115lbs.
*Also upped my single-leg calf raise max to 10 reps at 150lbs.
*My trainer friend Travis said I'm little Hercules haha.

Yearly Goal

Every year I do something that scares me.

2004 - Compete in the Miss Kent Scholarship Pageant
2005 - Run for ASWWU President
2006 - Initiate the search to find my biological mom in Korea
2007 - Leave full time job to contract at Microsoft
2008 - ???

"A diamond don't define what shine is
I don't need a Rolex to know what the time is
You got yours let me find what mine is
I'm a survivor look how strong my mind is
I stand on my own it's all me
Regardless of whatever they call me
I'm a leader not a follower
And I'd rather be paid and popular
Ride homie get your dollars up
We're in the belly of the beast that already swallowed us"

Ok, go

"Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets
So love the people who treat you right,
forget the ones who don't,
and believe that everything happens for a reason.
If you get a chance, take it;
If it changes your life, let it,
Nobody said it would be easy,
They just said it would be worth it."

Being Thankful

Truly mean it too. Pause and think over who/what in your life is significant and meaningful. Maybe tell those people too. One thing I am glad for are that I have improved my health and fitness in the past few years. This article about the 20 Worst Foods in America reminded me of that this morning :). I used to eat a snickers and a snack can of Sour Cream & Onion Pringles for lunch in high school. Don't get me wrong though. I work out/eat mindfully, and still possess the power to shutdown all-you-can-eat buffets. My WWU friends don't call me Cookie Monster for nothing, I've just found the balance I need.

Make time to think about what you are glad for. I'm sure I'll post more closer to Thanksgiving about other things/events/elements of my life I have gratitude for so look out for that. I just put together a 5-page newsletter for work so I'm taking a writing break for at least a few hours. This week I've been spending time working (obviously), planning holiday events/visits, and deocrating my office. One easy way to spruce up my corner office with a view is with easy print and cut snowflake patterns. They're fun during a lunch break... or a "brain break" like we used to say/require at Copacino+Fujikado.

:: Above the Clouds ::

My vacation in California was amazing guys. The flight was a-ok and I was back home this afternoon. Already went to the gym, grocery shopped for the week and did some laundry. Soon I'll be going to bed so I can be up and pumped to do some solid Microsoft work. I can say that there are now multiple reasons I love Huntington Beach. My vacation made me happy and I want to remember every minute so I'm pretty much writing that below.

Arrived Thursday and hit up Holllywood. Got a bit lost but managed to get back to the apt. The clock said quarter-till-big-muscles, so we all hit up the gym. While there, Bobby did the sweetest 360 kick ever. His glasses might not agree b/c they ended up at the bottom of the stairs, but Jeremy and I were freakin rolling. I also did my first 30 unassisted dips so that was hot. We headed out, got fresh & clean then went to dinner and visited Bobby.

Friday morning we cruised down PCH to Huntington Beach. Saw the funniest "farmers market" and took pics on the pier. Needed a caffeine fix at S*bux, then hit up Fred's for some Mexican for lunch. After that, J and B experienced the dirty griminess that is Walmart, as we searched for some DVDs. Laughed at Clerks 2, "Ooh... cake." Hahha. Later we checked out Ebisu for dinner which I freakin loved. Electric green melon soda and oyako donburi had me in heaven :). The super fun part of Friday night was going to Gaslamp for 80s night. I have never been a fan of that decade's musical offerings. But it was awesome. I did get Bobby into a little trouble when I exchanged texts with one of the girls he is talking with. My justification is she is being stupid and needs to "sh*t or get off the pot". Date him or let somebody else have a chance yo. Somebody who actually realizes he's a "catch." Anywho... a few drinks, lots of singing, even more taking pics of the guys posing and suddenly it was midnight. Probably the best night of the whole trip*!

Shopped my damn heart out at H&M on Sunday. The mall we went to (South something or other) was near University of Redlands and was ginormous and filled with the highend brands/designers I love (Carolina Herrera next to Marni... are you serious?!?) More fun with J and his roomies. A slight forray into "eh?" when I crunched into a piece of charcoal in my salad during lunch at Claim Jumpers... but that was quickly remedied with a comped lunch. Then on the way home... Bobby was a speed racer and, feat of all feats, managed to do a 180 on the 405 onramp, coming to a stop about a foot away (broadside) from the wall. We saw them as we got on...looking at them face to face lol. Back to the casa for a wardrobe change then we met his parents, sister/her bf and cousin for dinner. Had carne asada for the first time. Saw his dad's friend rock out some Jimmy Buffet and a cool version of "Brown Eyed Girl." It was so fun seeing his parents b/c hadnt seen them since high school. Super friendly and fun to hangout/talk with, like always! Headed home w/ the sis and her bf and watched another movie.

Woke up this morning and just got ready & headed to John Wayne since I had to be there at 9 a.m. So many things about this trip make me smile. It was a bummer to go. J and I definitely wanted more time together. But it feels like the start, so I'm not too sad :).

Just like Biggie....

"I'm going, going... back, back... to Cali, Cali."
Holler. This girl is getting the hell out of Dodge (ok, Seattle) on Thursday morning. Heading out to Huntington Beach to catch up with Jeremy. I also need to take a break from WA. Sometimes I am pretty tempted to move to California for the improved weather and larger cities. It'll be fun to check that out also while I'm down there. Don't miss me too much.

BoooOoOooOoooo!!!

Happy Halloween to you! I am at work, posting a quick blog. We are celebrating Halloween here, kids are coming in later this afternoon to trick-or-treat and there is also a haunted house up on the fourth floor. Loving all the extra sugar around the office too! I am Pocahontas and am dressed up at work along with a few others. Definitely worth the smiles when I walk by friends in the hall. Be safe and don't get run over tonight, whether you are out trick-or-treating or are going to parties/bars.

What to be for Halloween?

Man, Halloween is about two weeks away. My costume is TBD. Dressing in skimpy clothing is a cop-out I won't partake in this year, so I need something creative. It wouldnt be a bad idea for the government to consider making Halloween on the last Friday of every October. How can people with jobs properly celebrate this Pagan/Celtic holiday when we have work the next day? I mean, a Wednesday? Hump day? The guaranteed sleep deprevation from Wednesday to Thursday is nearly enough to deter me from going out at all. Nearly.

Here are a few pics from late-August: oh I miss tanktops!

"Don't let the good things of life rob you of the best things."

I think that is a good quote to start the week off.

When my alarm clock buzzed I swallowed and found I have a sore throat. Man, this is the second cold bug I've had this year, and we're only into October! An omen of things to come or getting them out of the way at once, let's hope its the latter of the two.

While reading various food blogs this morning, I saw Dr. Andrew Weill published a list of 11 fruits and vegetables that are okay to buy in their conventionally. Meaning... not as harmful in their non-organic form. In alphabetical order, the list is as follows:
1. Asparagus
2. Avocados
3. Bananas
4. Broccoli
5. Cabbage
6. Corn
7. Kiwi
8. Mangos
9. Onions
10. Pineapples
11.Peas

In other news, Heroes is on tonight at 9p.m. on NBC. The first two episodes haven't been as good as last season, but I'm still holding out hope for it ;).

Rain, rain, rain

Our city is officially descending into winter's rainy season. I turned on the heater in my house this morning. The last time I was chilly enough for that was about six months ago. Break out the chai tea, good book and a blanket...no more running Greenlake in the evenings. I'm going into hibernaton mode y'all!

International Emails

Isn't life always so busy, busy, busy? Or so I think, until an unexpected bit of news floats into my inbox. My friend Kim in Gumi contacted my birth mom in Andong and emaied that she's been sick lately. Just like that my hectic schedule is compacted while I think how my scheudle and budget can accomodate a trip to Korea a.s.a.p. I believe the random statistics that we utilize unde 10 percent of our brain capacity just a bit more now, The capacity people have in their schedules is only bounded by what is perceived at that time. We think we have no more free time, available resources, space in our minds to think... until we are forced expand past what we thought was possible... most often by a mini-crisis. Mine is worrying that I wont get to meet my biological mom. This happens at the same time I'm celebrating a new car (a black 2008 Corolla S, thank you :] ) the higher payments that accompany it, my mom's birthday in October, and juggling the coordinating 'hang out" time with friends in different workplaces, cities, states and time zones. It all seemed sooooo consuming until the prospect of losing out on knowing a very important piece of my identity. I can't ever "find" the time to do things, but instead I have to "make" time for the things that matter.

Showtime

Pace at work has increased somewhat. I really, really enjoy what I do. There is a certain amount of security provided too, having a supervisor who is supportive, provides mentoring and has my figurative "back" when inner-org issues arise. I feel semi-grownup when I realize this might be the makings of an identified career path. My sister has known since elementary school "what she wanted to be when she grew up," and she is a damn good stylist. Keeping a p.m.a. (positive mental attitude) on finding my interest eventually, and continuing to strive to be the best at whatever I was doing in the meantime, has been an influence in all of this.

Right now I am in a "show me" stage; meaning that I am placing a lot of effort, time and priority to my career. Establishing my ability and credibility is paramount to me. I learned growing up that working hard, being honest and doing what your instincts tell you is right (regardless of what others might expect from you,) is what ultimately means the most. I'm blessed to be where I am, and I commit to safeguard against doing anything that might mess up where I've worked towards thus far.

Birthday Cake

My Summer Vacation was Thursday August 9th -- Wednesday August 15th. Which means I had a two-day work week. I stayed home and made community web site edits for the work day since there was I-5 construction and was more convenient. During vacation I turned 23, and threw myself three parties to celebrate. Really. The weeks was a whirlwind of events, trips, meals and friends that I spent time with rather than pay attention to this blog....
Now it's the end of the day on Friday, and I have some time to kick back and share pics with you. Going all the way back to the start, Sunday the 12th was my family birthday. My mom made me pineapple upside down cake. Tiffany and Ron also came over. We had a lot of fun and they all showered me with awesome presents!
Next up was a Late Night Happy Hour in Northgate at Stanfords. Friends from C+F, Microsoft, my BFF, roommate, and seattle friends were all there. It was really fun to get people from so many parts of my life all together! Not to mention the really tasty yet only $2-5 appetizers. They were the size of a normal meals.

Saturday we went to Golden Gardens and had a picnic. That night I went to War Room. Sarah, andrew, tiffany, jesse, rachae, and sarah i. were there. Drinks consumed included: Blueberry Stoli, a 252 shot, AMF, Corona, Vodka....

After that Pearl came out and Shannon went away for a bit... the bojangles came on and lots of dancing ensued. The night concluded with me (sadly) falling asleep while everyone got Pizza Rigazzi. They ate my slices :(. Oh well. Got carried in the house and went to bed and passed the next number of hours slumbering peacefully.
The next few days were a visit by my m.i.a. BFF Jeff. He spent the summer playing ball in Hawaii and Japan so half of the summer I couldnt even call his cell. That was a real bummer. But after six months we finally hung out for a few days. Man they went too fast!! Feeding the duckies at Greenlake, cooking meals, watching some movies, hitting Gold's, trying to super-speedily catch up on life via convos. When I went to take him to the airport it ended up a tire on my car was flat. Jeff had to take a cab. SAAAAAAAAAAAD is how I felt when he pulled away. Major dose of the blues. Once I know what his plans are for next year, we can plan our next trip.

Overall, it was very good to take time off and be with lots of people. Today though, I am feeling super duper chill and will be hanging out solo. Every couple of weeks I get the isolation-bug and need a full day of quiet.

Two Days to Twenty-Three

Crazy to think Thursday is 2-3 for me. Work and trying to do lots of fun things after work has made time speed by at lightning speed. I was just able to send out details for my birthday parties (3 of them) last night. I celebrated my birthday with my family on Sunday down in Kent. We ordered Chinese takout from Golden Phoenix, and Tiffany has gotten me hooked on their veggie fried rice. Their S&S chicken was suprisingly tasty, with breading that wasnt the least bit soggy or oil-ladden. My parents got me a Bluetooth headset, so now I have both hands to 'focus on the freeway.' I guess eating, talking on the phone and messing with an iPod wasnt the safest equation for I-90 commuting. Lots of other fun gifts too....

Jeff is in town starting today, havent seen him in literally half a year. I am super excited to catch up and spend time together in Seattle. I've discovered so many fun restaurants and places since moving closer to Greenlake, cant wait to take him there!

Overall, I think I've changed for the better since my last birthday. 23 is going to be a fantastica year, I can already feel it.

Changes since last year:
..No longer at C+F
..Living in new house
..The Buick is even shabbier than last year
..Single status
..Better fitness knowledge/better workouts
..Not partying as much
..Trimmed down shopping excurrsions from weekly to bi-monthly
..Lighter hair
..Can get ready for work in 40 vs 65 mins.

Food for Thought

I'm working from home today to save gas... and its Friday :). Watching TV on my lunch break a montage of a happy-family-in-the-kitchen scenes sashays across the screen. Ending tagline was:

"One pound, one pan, happy family. Hamburger Helper."

Gross for many reasons. First, from the pic below, I'm pretty sure people dont eat 1/5 of one box of "Helper" for din-din, as is listed as the serving size. Unhealthy at 400 kcals a 'serving.' Second... a pound of beef and a skillet equates to fun family times at dinner? Sucka, you better pull some organic Whole Foods or PCC eats out of any kind of pre-prepared package you serve me. *Ack*

*Disclaimer: I did work in the advertising field so I pay particular attention to persuasive logic equations relating product purchase to a specific positive emotion.

"Baby Where'd You'd Get Your Body From?"

"I got it from my mama...." (and Gold's Gym.)
New Will.i.am. music for you to enjoy:
I Got It From My Mama Lyrics

Top 6 songs for the week:
1. I got it from my mama - will.i.am.
2. She Got It - Get Cool
3. Baby Dont - Fabolous f/ T-Pain
4. Technology - 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake, Timbo
5 . No Definition - Mario
6. Time Machine - T-Pain

Can I just say...

I'm happy to have found these awesome girls to hang out with at work!
Working from home (poolside), celebrating Lauren's birthday at Matador, going to the Emigrant for $5 mug night on a random Tuesday... these are all reasons switching Microsoft is fun! Heidi was missing from these events :( but we'll drag her out yet!
My birthday is August 9th. I will be 23! I'm going out to a Seattle club, msg me to be added to 'the VIP list.'
Tomorrow I'm getting my hair 'did', more lighter highlights AND meeting up with Tiffa for dinner and finally seeing each other again! Then I have a movie night, bbq, Sunday brunch, Greenlake workout.... the list goes on, until August 16th! Every day. After work. Weekends too. Lol cant wait!!!

Te Busque

On repeat in my mental space.
Can't life be funny? You can capture time in notes and lyrics.

I've been high, I've been low
I've been fast, I've been slow
Having no where to go
Missed the bus, missed the show

I've been down on my luck
I've felt like giving up
My life locked in the trunk
When it hurt way too much
Needed a reason to live
Some love inside me to give
I couldn't rest I had to keep on searching

Te busqué
Debajo de las piedras y no te encontré
En la mañana fría y en la noche
Te busqué, hasta enloquecer
Pero tu llegaste a mi vida como una luz
Sanando las heridas de mi corazón
Y haciendome sentir vivo otra vez

I've been too sad to speak
And too tired to eat
Been so low that I say
The world cut off my wings

I've been hurt by my past
But I feel the future in my dreams
And at last I wake up I'm not sure

I wanted to find a light
Something just didn't feel right
Needed an answer to end all my searchin'

I looked for you
Under the rocks and I didn't find you
In the cold morning and the night I looked for you, until getting crazy
But you came to my life as a light
Healing the wounds of my heart
And making me feel alive once again

And...go

Home for Father's Day weekend.
Just in case I end up going on my trip... I set this blog up.
Goodnight yo.
